dc.description
Department of Antiquities, Republic of Cyprus, Salamis (Famagusta), Basilica of Saint Epiphanius. The construction of the basilica began by Saint Epiphanius around 400 AD and was completed after his death in 403. Originally the basilica was built as a seven-aisled structure with narthex and atrium and its floor was covered with mosaics. After its reconstruction in the 6th century, the basilica turned into a five-aisled structure and its floor was covered with large rectangular slabs. At the eastern side of the basilica there is a baptistery consisting of several rooms for baptismal ceremonies.
Photograph taken 1957
