Title: Holy Bishopric of Morphou: The Betrayal of Christ by Judas, Church of the Archangel Michael in Pedoulas
Start date: 1474
End date: 1474
Historical Period: Late Byzantine Period
Description:

The scene is enacted in open-air. Christ, in motion, is shown in the middle advancing in the right. Peter cutting off the ear of the servant Malchus in retaliation of his master's arrest. A crowd of armed soldiers with distinctive helmets surround Christ. Two lanterns fixed onto poles suggest that the event transpired during the night. A soldier blows into a horn or boukino conjuring up the roar brought on during the arrest. The beardless young traitor, Judas, stands in front of his master, embracing Him, his right hand upon Christ's shoulder and the left on his waist, just before giving Him the designated kiss.
