Title: Holy Bishopric of Morphou: The Baptism of Christ, Church of the Archangel Michael in Pedoulas
Start date: 1474
End date: 1474
Historical Period: Late Byzantine Period
Description:

A starkly rocky landscape delineates the background of the composition along the sides. The intermediate area is covered with the waters of the river Jordan, with alternating winding bands of a grey and ash color and several species of fish wandering in them. Upright, undressed, Christ stands in the middle, feet crossed hiding his nudity. With the slightly raised palm of his horizontal right hand, he blesses modestly. On the left bank, Jogh the Baptist touches Christ's head with his right hand. With the other hand, he points to the heavens., where the Holy Spirit in the form of a white pigeon within a grey colored ray of three subdivisions descends upon Christ. On the right back, three angels stand in reverence.
