dc.description
A many-peopled composition of the Crucofixion has been depicted on the wide syrface of an isosceles triangle, two parts of which are delimited by decorative bands. Christ, nailed to the cross, is flanked by two robbers with their hands tied behind their backs. A large crowd of People and supplementary events fill this scene. At the bottom left the Virgin, having Fainted, is supported by some of her friends. In the centre, a kneeling Mary Magdalen clings to the base of Christ;s cross. A little further to the right his beloved disciple John stands in sorrow, next to the centurion. Bottom right three soldiers squable violently over who shall take the woven, unsewn tunic of Jesus. All around there are Romans, Jews, foot soldiers and cavalrymen, servants and others throng the triangular space. In the bottom left corner of the scene appears an old monk, kneeling and leaning on a walking stick, is gazing at the swooned Virgin Mother, playing an avtive role in the drama of the Divine Passion.
