Title: Holy Bishopric of Morphou: Deesis, Church of the Holy Virgin in Moutoullas
Start date: 1280
End date: 1280
Historical Period: Late Byzantine Period
Description:

A central representation of the external, northern wall is the Second Coming, which was painted over and on both sides of the nothern door of the church. On the throne lies instead of Jesus the cross of the martyrdom with the symbols of the Passion. On both sides of the throne back we read the inscription with the capital letters: '' The preparation of the throne''. Jesus stands in the middle of a circular mandorla; the external side is painted in grey colour and the internal is decorated with rectangular frames in reddish colours creating an eight-pointed star. The placement of Jesus over the door refers to the relevant text of the Bible: ''I am the door''.
