Description: 

The half-barrel vault of the apse is occupied by the full-length figure of the Virgin Mary as Blachernitissa. Set against a deep blue field above and a green one below she raises her hand in prayer, she has a red medallion on her breast bearing the image of the frontal Christ Emmanuel, blessing with his right hand and holding an unfolded scroll in the other one. She is flanked by the full-length but smaller figures of the archangels Michael and Gabriel, represented ina three-quarter profile, carrying censers.
