dc.description<p>The first figure at the east end of the south wall is that of St John the Baptist, a pendant to the Virgin Mary directly opposite on the north wall. They hold open rolls and incline their heads towards the officiating Christ in the bema. They stand beside the conventional and supplicate Christ for human salvation.</p>
