dc.description
Basilica of San Francesco, external view.
The Basilica of San Francesco was built in the fifth century as the Church of the Apostles.
Between the ninth and tenth centuries the church was demolished to build a new one. This new church was dedicated to San Pietro until it was handed over to the Franciscans in the 13th century and dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi.
