High-quality bust of an elderly man dressed in late antique toga; a full beard and thick moustache; a central patch of plainer flat hair brushed forward indicates a balding head; eyebrows slightly raised and bulbous eyes opened wide with intense stare; a member of the native Athenian elite families of landowners, a local magistrate, a professor of rhetoric, but also a praetorian prefect or proconsul.
