Honorary epigram to the Praetorian Prefect Herculius by the sophist Plutarchus (AD 408-410). Inscribed on the left side of the entrance to the Library of Hadrian, above the original statue (lost). Text: “Plutarchus, the treasurer (and dispenser) of speech(es) and sophist, set up (the statue of) Heraclius, the treasurer of laws, the upright perfect.”
