(Ed.ne Alinari) No 17246 Florence - Baptistery. Hell, detail of the mosaic of the dome (13th century). The representation of Hell is dominated by the figure of the great horned Devil, seated on an inflamed throne. The Devil crunches a man; from his ears two snakes come out and bite the damned. Monsters in the shape of a snake, a frog or a lizard come out of his body and rage on the damned, who are trampled by the Devil. Animals, that devour the damned, feed the insatiable nature of the Devil.
