Description
John Prodromos is depicted as an ascetic in the desert, with a hide under his himation, holding a scroll with an inscription calling on all believers to repent their sins. Saint Nicholas, clothed in the sacerdotal vestments of a high priest and in his familiar iconographic guise, one of the most popular saints in the Christian Church, frequently occupies an eminent position in the decoration of churches. Conversely, Saint Luke on his own and depicted in full figure, as in this instance, is more rarely seen; he is, however, indigenous to the churches of Cyprus.
