Description
Kalopanagiotis, Monastery of Saint John Lampadistis.
The monastery consists of a complex of three churches belonging to different periods and phases and covered by a second steep-pitched timber roof with tiles. The katholikon, dated in the 11th century, is a domed cross-in-square structure and it is dedicated to Saint Herakleidios. In the 12th century, the barrel-vaulted church of John Lampadistis was added to the north of the katholikon. At the end of the 15th century, the vaulted chapel of “Akathistos Hymn” or “Latin chapel” was built to the north side of that of Saint John with a second steep-pitched roof.
