Description
Overlife-size togate statue and separately worked head found nearby, perhaps of Stephanus, proconsul of Asia; Ephesus; 4th to 6th century. Statue of a standing man in mature age. Figure stands with weight over the right leg. The right arm is raised holding the mappa. The left forearm is projecting, holding a sceptre. A bundle upright scrolls supports the statue of the right leg. The statue wears a late antique toga over two tunics and the senatorial calcei.
