Start date: 1494
End date: 1494
Historical Period: Late Byzantine Period
Description:

The Second coming was painted over the original layer of frescoes, which must have been contemporary with the lower register. High up in the apex of the gable, the figure of Christ dominates the entire composition, encmpassed by an angular nimbus, which is in turn surrounded by the evangelist symbols, a six-winged seraph, and wheels with many eyed wings. Christ is flankedby the suppliant figures of the Virgin Mary and St John the Baptist. Below him is the Hetoimasia, the prepared throne of the secons Coming, with Adam and Eve paying homage to it on their knees. On either side of the Hetoimasia are enthroned apostles and angels.
