Title: Holy Bishopric of Morphou: Mural painiting of the Betrayal, Church of the Holy Cross of Ayiasmati (6-6,58,59)
Start date: 1494
End date: 1494
Historical Period: Late Byzantine Period
Description:

The Betrayal. It is a crowed scene. A throng of figures-disciples, Roman soldiers, and Jews -jostle around the central figure of Christ. Two Jews seize Christ as Judas betrays him with a kiss. At the bottom right we see Peter cutting off Malchus's ear, while the half-clad, haloed youth on the extreme right is identified as St Mark. In the scene in which Christ is brought before Annas and Caiaphas, it is interesting to note the inclusion of the moment when an officer, in front of priests, lifts his hand to strike Jesus for his supposed insolence during the interrogation
