Bowl. Hard red fabric. Conical base with upturned ring, hemispherical body, vertical rim, externally concave. On a layer of white slip, which covers the inside surface, broadly incised lines, combined with finely engraved ones for the details, form the picture of a falconer standing amidst his birds of prey. The hawk or falcon on his outstreched right arm has jesses hanging from tis legs; these were leathers straps permanently attached to the bird;s legs at one end, while the other end could be fastened onto a leash to keep it tied up when it was not used in hunting. With his left hand the falconer strokes another bird of prey, while a third bird is perched on his shoulder . The sgraffito deciration is enhanced with brownhish-yellow brush strokes. The external surface is adorned with slip-painted decoration: large runnig spirals around the belly and a wavy line below the rim. A yellow glazing covers the inside of the vase, and a green glazing the exterior, exxcept for the base. Produced by the Paphos pottery workshops.
