Florence - Baptistery. Patriarchs, Saints and Angels, detail of the mosaic of the dome (13th century). Part of the second register: there are two long benches decorated as thrones, on which are placed the Virgin Mary (on the right of Christ, with the hands raised), St John the Baptist (on the left, with a scroll in his hand) and the twelve Apostles. Each Apostle holds an open book, written with the most diverse alphabets, to remember their work of evangelization of the world, after the descent of the Holy Spirit. ((Ed.ne Alinari) No 17245 )
